land and Waters

The Te’mexw member Nations currently hold reserve lands and fee simple lands that represent a small proportion of their traditional territories. The Nations’ traditional territories also include marine and freshwater areas. The federal and provincial governments only recognize very limited governance powers of the Nations over the land and waters and often impose their own laws. Gaining an increased land base and greater recognition of governance powers over the land and waters would be key benefits of modern treaties.
